I read a blog by Nick Cave. In it he quotes a few lines from W.B. Yeats:
I must lie down where all the ladders start
In the foul rag and bone shop of the heart
Cave comments on it saying that:
To write a song requires a reckoning. We roll up our sleeves and through rigorous application encounter the disastrous and mortifying condition of our interior selves. We exert poetic order upon the turmoil and chaos. We hew and hone and bring structure to the stricken heart; we codify our weary souls, giving form to the blues.
This is where it all starts. Where it all begins. Where it ends and where it lands. Not only for songs, or art, or poetry, or creativity. But for everything. For everything we ever try to make or do or be. For every 24-hours we are given that we try to fashion for ourselves a life worth living. Every moment with the latent potential of something new.
There it is.

P.S ICAD - the road goes ever on and on - Day 111-114
P.P.S. I came across a great passage in
’s recent review of A Grain of Wheat by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o:“our current realities depend upon memory for coherence. But without complete knowledge of the past, of what happened and why, our coherence is false, and our beliefs about the present are founded on faulty assumptions.”
It inspired me to make this piece:
