To be a maker is to enter the world as an architect. To look at the barren expanses, the desolate places, and know that something meaningful can be made there.
To gather all the varying fragments of isolation and loneliness and construct something with them. To piece it all together into bricks. To build bridges that stretch across the vast distances. Connected the secluded, one to another.
To make a temple. A refuge. A fortress. To share the shelter of your aloneness. To give it as a gift. An offering.
To create a space where we discover that even though solitude is necessary, so is solidarity.
P.S. - all the collages in this post are available for purchase here. Also I just had stickers made! They’re available in my shop now too.
P.P.S. ICAD - Day 258-261
P.P.P.S - I made a video for my paid subscribers showing a few behind-the-scenes collage material experiments I’m playing around with.

I’m always experimenting with collage materials and experimenting with different was of creating collage materials. This is just a quick-ish video talking about some of the recent experiments I’m working on behind the scenes that may start to come into play in new collage work.
Duane, I appreciate how you make this space. It's a relief to visit here. It seems you try--daily-- to broaden and deepen your way of seeing, not just for yourself but for others who are curious about designing their own daily practice. Thank you for showing how simple it can be to nourish ourselves creatively! There is such an ever-present hunger for this unconditional state.
I like this point Duane: "To make a temple. A refuge. A fortress. To share the shelter of your aloneness. To give it as a gift. An offering."
I've found that creating something is like a refuge in itself. The process, time spent, thoughts thought, imagination is in itself a temple and refuge. It's like a timeout from the world is distraction. The end result, the piece of art created, is the physical result. Thanks for sharing.
