Matt Haig says that "Forward momentum...is not automatically good simply because it is forward momentum." Onward directionality for the sake of an onward direction alone, does not determine the correctness of a course.
"Sometimes," Haig says, "we push our lives in the wrong direction", and we continue to trudge along out of an amalgamated sense of apathy, obligation, obstinance, or delusional hopefulness. In any of these cases, real, life-altering, paradigm-shifting, 'progress' "might mean doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road."
Sometimes moving ahead means moving in another direction. Sometimes backwards. Sometimes pivoting. Sometimes it means starting again, again. This time, differently.
Slower.
Simpler.
Doing the opposite of everything you believed that you had to. Loosening your grip and letting go of what you thought was a necessity.
