My studio is a climate-controlled storage unit. It's not much to look at. It leaves a lot to be desired. It offers no amenities.
No power.
No water.
No bathrooms.
I have a small rechargeable generator. It's just enough to power a ring lamp, a record player, and a fan. The bare essentials of productivity.
It's austere and spartan to say the least. But it's quiet and the rent is cheap.
I call it "The Vault", if only because "The Dungeon" feels too punitive and depressing.
The one thing I wish it had is a window. Some natural, if not at least better, lighting.
“Bad lighting makes people feel sad", Clayton Cubitt says, and I believe him. But, honestly, I think the Vault might be an exception. My lighting is terrible, but it's my happy place. I might be sad when I get here, but never when I leave.
"There are two ways of spreading light", Edith Wharton says, "to be The candle or the mirror that reflects it."
If there's one thing I know more than anything, it's where the best light is. The best light is where it's always been. Where I've always found it. Where I can find it still.
The best light is at my work bench. It's the candle in the darkness. It's my lighthouse.
I'm just reflecting it...

This says it all: “ I might be sad when I get here, but never when I leave.”
Ooh, those words! So many to choose from, but it felt amazing to read, "I might be sad when I get here, but never when I leave." 💚
As for the artworks—fabulous, as ever!
