A couple of conversational side notes, none of which are meant to detract from the finery of this piece:
I agree that Simon & Garfunkel were culturally more effective together, but personal I enjoy Paul's solo stuff more. It's just closer to my aesthetic, for whatever reason.
And while I could never argue Hall & Oates is a *great* band 😄 they're kina like comfort food. Especially on a Saturday morning, especially in the company of someone like Huey Lewis 😅
Here's where I'll prove to be an unreliable narrator:
I'll say I don't like Hall & Oates, but...I sing along to a disturbing amount of their catalog. Especially, "She's Gone", "Rich Girl", and "Sara Smile"
I draw the line at Huey Lewis...lol
I love great harmonies, so Simon & Garfunkel, together will always be my preference. I've lost track of the number of times I've listend to "The Boxer: on repeat. And don't even get me started on "Mrs. Robinson" or "The Only Living Boy in New York"
But even with that said, if I had to pick one over the other, Team Simon all the way.
Going to start looking at songs as what tea I can steep them to. Brilliant
Love that! Glad to help to inspire a little bit of mindfulness in your day. Thanks so much for reading, and your kind words! I really appreciate it!
Love love love this post! But the happy part is that they get to come back! Or even better, you get to go there! Long distance is hard, truth!
Glorious chorus!
I mean, you're not wrong. You rarely are. The choruses were my favorite parts to write. I'm happy with how they managed to overlap and interweave.
Palahniuk would be proud!
This is pretty badass, Duane. One of my favorites so far.
Thank you! That means a lot! This took some time to form into a solid structure, but I really enjoyed all the detials and implied time stamps, lol.
