There are firsts and there are lasts, and they are inextricably linked.
Beginnings and endings. Entrances and exits. There is this initiating instant and the final one next to it. Separated only by a liminal threshold in between.
Firsts are momentous. Clearly demarcated and committed to memory. But, lasts are a mystery. You never know when they’re coming. Sometimes you can anticipate it, but more often than not they arrive unexpectedly. It's hard to say which is the worst process of discovery.
All the more reason to be more guarded with our ideas about certitude. "Never" comes faster than we ever thought it could. "Forever" doesn't mean what it used to. Revel in the middle of the moments while you're having them. Enjoy it all while it's happening.
Go slow. Don't be in a hurry. Savor everything.
P.S. - I made a post for my paid subscribers showing the process or making “repentance and remorse” (the collage at the top of this post) - you can find it here.
P.P.S. ICAD - Day 26-29 - all featured collages are available for purchase here.
P.P.P.S - I finally got the new issue of Contemporary Collage Magazine with my feature! You can get a copy here.
Again, amazing work here. Love the 3 featured, each in their own way. And love the composition of the chair ICAD.
You seem to be in a new creative flow and you surprise me every time!
This is an excellent point, Duane: "Go slow. Don't be in a hurry. Savor everything."
Lately, I've been trying to this more in my writing, hiking, and photography. Oddly enough, this savoring way of life has transferred over to how I have been making coffee the past few weeks.
I've switched back to using a pour-over filter rather than my espresso machine. That has forced me to slow down and savor each pour. It's a few moments of simply watching and waiting for the water to filter through and into the mug. Savor the moment!
I like that collage "inhabiting the things" as well. Those antennae in the middle between the top of the tower on the left and the buildings on the right are interesting. That shape and 2 antenna almost remind me of some cyborg/robot deer with 2 antlers. Thanks for sharing.
