I’m a sucker for a comp notebook, and all of my recent collages I’ve shared are from a half composition notebook. I think these are some of my favorites of your collages. Sketchbooks are sacred spaces that meet us where we are. Keep it up, no matter the frequency

Thanks so much! I’ve always been a big fan of composition notebooks too. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of collaging in them before. Love your thoughts on sketchbooks! That’s as beautiful as it is profound! My frequency hasn’t been great already, but I’m hoping to make some sketchbook time over teh weekend. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

I would like to buy the last collage. And the card with it. I’m only sorry that I can’t pay the price in the gallery.

Would you dm me with a ballpark estimated shipping cost? - if you have? I’ll give you the address.

Thank you!

You gave away the secret, Duane. Sketchbooks should never be precious, they aren’t I think until a line - or a scribble or sketch in them blooms.

“until a line or a scribble…blooms” - Gorgeous! Thank you for that!

I get why simple things are hard. They are for me, too.

And this is a line, I will memorize: “ If I need to learn to survive differently, I know I need to learn to play in different ways.”

Glad to be in good company! That line is slowly becoming a mantra to me, haha!

I have never been able to keep a “sketchbook” unless forced to do so as part of an art school class assignment. In fact, for one class that required a sketchbook full of daily practice drawings, I “crammed” the night before to fill the pages with faux spontaneity.

Part of it has been the preciousness but another aspect is simply that my mind doesn’t work in a way where I plan art ahead of time or make thumbnails or maquettes for “proper” art. Whatever comes, comes.

I am currently in a dry expressive period and maybe my mind and body are reacting to the seasonal shift as well.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s very very rare that I have any notions about what I want to make before I make it. So much of my process is based exploration and discovery and iteration. What I’m trying to do in my ‘sketching’ practice is explore different things, ways of working, methods, and media, that i wouldn’t normally use. Just to see what happens.

Yeah that’s perfect. It’s an interesting balance. When everything feels like an experiment, it takes some extra effort or intention to designate a space to broaden our process palette.

I buy cheap sketchbooks, too. Less pressure to create masterpieces. I love the comp notebook collages with the free form scribbles in the back ground.

Play, yes. That's an anadote for so much. I love your post cards, Parallelism is my favorite. I wish I had room for one of your art gallery collages. They are stunning!

You’re absolutely right! Since bringing in to a greater intention of ‘play’ into my creative practice, it has invigorated and enlivened everything.

Thank you for your kind words! The larger of the three gallery pieces sold. The two remaining are smaller, 5×7 framed. I’m drowning in completed work these days, trying to create some space lol. Thanks again!

I love your pencil marks. Isn’t it amazing how such an offhand thing can convey so much energy and emotion?

I know right! As strange as it sounds, mark making is something I have always struggled with. I over think it. Like everything, ha! I have this unbearable desire for some semblance of precision and order. I knew undertaking this sketching exercise I wanted to push back against that and explore. Thanks so much!
