Maybe to cover the underpainting as a way to protect it. To honor it. To say: it mattered.

"The past never leaves. Never fully fades. But if you look closely, if you pay attention, if you use it properly, you'll find it offers depth, dimension, history, narrative, and intricacy."

Definitely a struggle, that one, but necessary. Appreciate the perspective as always, Duane.

I deeply connect with this.

And it is a beautiful reminder of why we create and should/need to continue to do so.

We often think of the past of what it was or could have been. And at times we think of the past about those moments we will never recover that now are gone and we will never live them again. But in a way, we always live in the present thus let us make the best of it whatever that past was or we think of it. Good read!

Exactly! Carlo Rovelli says that "the difference between the past and the future refers only to our own blurred vision of the world." Nothing escapes the gravitational pull of the present and that includes both the future and the past. It all right, in some form or fashion. It's all right here. It's all there is. Thabks so much Luis!

I love Deep and infinitely weary, so gorgeous! And the rest of them are, too. I love the way you layer. Being kind to yourself and your past is imperative; you can’t change it, only accept it.

Thanks so much Jenn! I find that the things I appreciate most, the things that most speak to me, are rich, complex, and multifaceted. I try my best to capture some semblance of that in my work.

Regret is a constant struggle of mine, compassion and acceptance are the things that I try to get better at giving to the past I've lived.
