Its like creating a parachute while you're plummeting. Sewing together your safety net in midair. It feels desperate and urgent. There's a real dilemma that needs a real answer, real quickly, and you don't know what to do. Its about flexibility and fast thinking, and the unknowing is the key.
The work of a maker is equal parts excitement and anxiety. "The process demands that we live on the frontier", says Seth Godin. That we put ourselves on the line. "That we learn new skills" constantly. That we live a life of invention. Never settling. Never resting on the laurels of what you've done before. Never relaxing into mastery. Staying a student always.
You have to keep asking questions that seem unsolvable. Keep pushing yourself into unexplored territory. Writing the map, the manual, and the instructions as you go.
The uncertainty isn't a malfunction. It isn't a deficit to be filled. It's the point of the whole endeavor. It's the catalyst to all making.
P.S. - Cool people making cool things:

The textures, color palette, and all the subtle nuances are marvelous!made another gorgeous piece with some of my collage papers. There are so many great moments in this collage, and teh vibrancy is wonderful.

This keeps popping up and I just want to say that the first collage is perhaps, to date, my all time fav collage of yours. I really really really love it.
